WELCA
All women of the New Sweden Lutheran congregation are considered members of the Women of the ELCA (WELCA). This group contributes to the workings of the church by helping with functions and fundraisers to help maintain the facilities, as well as spiritual ministries to members and the community and the world. WELCA provides the Daily Bread devotionals, helps in preparing and serving food at funerals, provides refreshments at various events, organizes the purchase of Easter Lillies and Christmas poinsettias to beautify the church, organizes the Angel Tree for families in need at Christmas, contributes to the back-to-school backpack and supplies program, and sends greeting cards to shut-ins.
WELCA Purpose Statement
As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
